Last weekend, the opening of the exhibition Steponas Darius: Athlete, Soldier and Aviator took place at the Steponas Darius Birthplace Museum.
Welcome addresses were delivered by the project manager and curator, Dr Inga Puidokienė; exhibition curator Stepas Čeplinskas; Deputy Director of the Klaipėda District Municipality Administration Edgaras Kuturys; Acting Director of the Lithuanian Sports Museum Inga Petrokienė; Commander of the Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas 212th Company of the Vytautas the Great 2nd Riflemen’s Unit of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union Voldemaras Gembeckas; and Mėčislovas Raštikis, curator at the Steponas Darius Birthplace Museum.

The exhibition features objects on loan from the Vytautas the Great War Museum, the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art, the Kaunas Ninth Fort Museum, and members of Steponas Darius’ family.
The project was funded by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania.
The exhibition invites visitors to discover Steponas Darius not only as the legendary aviator, but also as an athlete, a soldier, and a remarkable figure of his time. It is open during the museum’s regular opening hours and can be visited with a museum admission ticket.
